Crowns & Bridges In Boulder, Colorado
Dr. Kupka performs
expert crown and bridge work to help patients regain function and appearance when a tooth has been compromised due to fractures, decay, trauma or structural damage.
A dental crown, often referred to as a “cap”, is a custom-made replacement for once-unhealthy areas of the tooth. Crowns are a healthy, long-term recommendation when a large cavity or previous decay resulting in a large filling has compromised the strength of a tooth or weakened natural enamel. A crown is often the only stable solution for fractured or cracked and broken teeth… other than an extraction.
Some preparation of the tooth is necessary to remove decay and old filling material and repair tooth cracks. Then, often a build-up helps support the tooth from the inside out. An impression is taken and a tooth-colored temporary protects your tooth while our lab fabricates your custom crown. The crown is then either cemented or bonded to your tooth. For a tooth with a root canal, a crown minimizes the risk of breakage and tooth loss.
Have you seen the black edge around many older crowns? This can be eliminated with some of our newer materials and techniques to give you a very natural result.
A bridge is used in cases of missing teeth. Dr. Kupka places a custom-made tooth in the empty space, anchored by two or more crowns affixed on neighboring teeth. Because a missing tooth causes the neighboring teeth to shift, drift or become weakened, a bridge helps restore strength and function, increases chewing surface area and allows a more balanced bite.
