Boulder Laser Dentistry - DIAGNOdent laser Cavity Detection
When large cavities that cause pain or endanger the tooth are found, you may wonder how they got to be so big. With traditional cavity detection, small areas of decay could remain hidden deep under the enamel, causing decay to spread undetected. Because Dr. Kupka believes in giving her patients the best possible chance at a healthy, great smile, she and her Team use DIAGNOdent laser cavity detection to spot early decay right away.
With laser cavity detection, areas of decay are easily identified with no pushing and poking, just a pain-free wand. Catching these areas early can mean the difference between conservative filling treatment and expensive crowns, root canals or dental implants.
Here’s how it works:
- The DIAGNOdent system sends a noninvasive, laser beam on the top surfaces of the tooth.
- The light beam reflects back a wavelength reading.
- If there’s decay, the wavelength change is shown on a scale of zero to 99, pinpointing not only the location of the surface decay, but the size as well!
- As soon as these starter areas of decay are discovered, Dr. Kupka can polish and remove the decayed area and prevent spreading with a sealant, white filling or other treatment option.
Don’t take any chances with your smile! Remember that early laser cavity detection and regular dental visits go hand-in-hand with total health and a pain-free smile. Find out more about laser cavity detection at Dr. Kupka’s Boulder dental office.
